Jaco Theunissen holds a degree in Medical Sciences as well as an LLB degree from the University of Pretoria. He is a qualified patent attorney and director at KISCH IP.
Jaco is the driving force behind KISCH IP's medical device specialist field, and he also advises clients in high profile IP transfers and licencing negotiations and agreements. He has 10 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting local and foreign patent applications in the field of life sciences, and more particularly in the field of medical technology. He also has a keen interest in the field of registered designs, including the registration and prosecution thereof. Over and above patent and design registration and prosecution, he specialises in litigation in the fields of patents, registered designs, copyright and plant breeders' rights, as well as providing opinions on validity and infringement in these fields.
He is a member of the Law Society of the Northern Provinces and the Law Society of South Africa. He is also a fellow of SAIIPL (South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law), a member of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) and also represents the firms patent department at the annual INTA (International Trade Mark Association) conference.
