Andrew Papadopoulos

Background

Andrew is a Director and Trade Mark Attorney at KISCH IP. He obtained a BCom (Law) in 2003 from the Rand Afrikaans University and an LLB in 2005 from the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2008 and became a fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law in 2009.


Leveraging off his business degree and experience in corporate world, Andrew understands the business objectives of his clients and adopts legal solutions to fit these corporate concerns. His passion for IP litigation, that is, trade mark, unlawful competition and copyright litigation in South Africa and across Africa, means that his clients benefit from a protection as well as an enforcement perspective which is unusual in the South African IP industry. As a result, Andrew manages some of the largest multi-national companies’ trade mark portfolios.

With regard to regulatory matters, Andrew advises clients on compliance with advertising, food labelling,Andrew Papadopoulos “His extensive experience in regulatory aspects has given him a unique ability to combine the traditional forms of IP enforcement with non-traditional measures of enforcement” Trade Mark Director product labelling, company name provisions, domain name provisions, consumer rights provisions and other regulatory issues relating to intellectual property. Accordingly, in addition to court proceedings, Andrew also assists clients in alternative dispute resolutions including advertising objections, domain name disputes, company name objections, complaints of various Government departments regarding product labelling, etc.

Andrew’s extensive experience in regulatory aspects has given him a unique ability to combine the traditional forms of IP enforcement with non-traditional measures of enforcement. The combination of these measures gives, what Andrew believes, his clients the competitive edge in conflict situations.

Andrew’s extensive experience in litigation has positioned him as an expert in his field and is regularly published and presents workshops to role-players in the industry.
